GAPAN CITY – A motorcyclist who tried to ignore an anti-criminality checkpoint allegedly yielded P1.7-million worth of methampetamine hydrochloride or shabu and a pistol in Barangay San Nicholas here at about 6 a.m. on Dec. 6.

Col. Ferdinand Germino, Nueva Ecija police director, said the 43-year-old suspect turned out to be a high value individual (HVI) in the city police list from Barangay San Vicente, also of this city.

Germino said police manning the checkpoints flagged down the suspect having no plate displayed on his motorcycle but he ignored the officers’ instructions and reportedly tried “to speed up “almost hitting one of the police personnel.”

“However, he was intercepted by other team members,” Germino added.

During verification and protective search, operatives recovered one .45 pistol loaded with five live rounds of ammunition, four heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, and two knot-tied plastic packs containing a white crystalline substance, also believed to be shabu, according to city police chief Lt. Col. Joel dela Cruz.

The total estimated weight of the seized drugs was 250 grams, with a standard drug price of P1,700,000, he said.

The suspect is now under the custody of Gapan City Police Station charged with violations of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and RA 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

“We will not tolerate individuals who seek to ruin the lives of Novo Ecijanos. Let this serve as a clear warning to others engaged in similar illegal activities — you will be apprehended,” Germino said.
