Initial reports showed that Mariven Javate, 33, and her child, Allysa sustained multiple stab wounds over their hands and various parts of their bodies. The mother’s body was found sprawled near a toilet bowl while that of the child near the comfort room.
Relatives of the victims who asked not to be identified said the victim’s husband, Marlon Javate, a civil engineer working in Africa, repeatedly contacted his wife Sunday night.
They said that unable to contact his wife, the husband on Monday asked one of their female relatives to go to their house at Lopez Subdivision in Barangay East Calaguiman, Samal town. Two relatives found the mother and her child already dead at 1 in the afternoon.
The relatives said the door of the kitchen was open. They nalso found sautéed onions and garlic that Maribel prepared for a dish that she was no longer able to finish cooking.
The mother and her child were the only occupants of the house.
A cousin of Maribel pointed to a small tree at the back of the house that has some blood stains that he said might have been used as escape route over a concrete fence.
Police are still investigating the crime.
