ANGELES CITY – More than one million registered voters in Pampanga are expected to troop to polling precints today to choose their barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan leaders under a manual elections.
Police and anti-crime groups are also expected to conduct continuous monitoring operations in barangay Balibago here and barangay Dau in Mabalacat, two of the most populated barangays in the province.
Senior Supt. Danilo Bautista, city police director, and other police chiefs in Pampanga have vowed to deploy more policemen in various polling places just like in the last May presidential elections.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said “I can foresee an orderly and peaceful barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.”
He also urged people to immediately report any violence and threats to cops.
Pamintuan noted that there are complaints from supporters of village bets but “these are minor things which could easily be addressed by authorities.”
“I believe that Kapampangans are peaceloving people and they will not allow violence to rule the province and this city,” he told Punto Central Luzon.
On the other hand, other mayors, civil society groups and business leaders have also called on the public to help, be watchful and maintain a peaceful and orderly elections.
Balibago barangay captain Rodelio “Tony” Mamac reiterated his call for “an election free from corruption” and deceit.
“Huwag po nating bayaang mamayani ang pagsira sa ating mga prinsipyo, kung hindi bagkus ay piliin natin ang mga kandidato na tunay na nagserbisyo sa kanilang mga barangay,” he said.
He said that Kapampangans should adhere to the call of President Noynoy Aquino to stop corruption.
