More Marcos than Aquino

IN JAPAN, it took us 25 years to become a tiger nation. Every Japanese where (sic) called upon to give their selfless service and sacrifice for our country – PM Shinzo Abe.

So how can we expect PNoy to do it with only 6 years? One More Term for PNoy So reads a Facebook post from the movement pushing for the perpetuation, okay, extension, of the presidency of BS Aquino III. The proffered argument by parallelism falls flat on its face, infirm as it is in grammar, and fallacious in logic.

One. So Japan’s transformation to a tiger economy took all of 25 years. So how many prime ministers – aside from Abe – presided over that development? In the last 25 years, there have been 11 – Kaifu. Hosokawa, Hata, Muroyama, Mori, Koizumi, Fukuda, Aso, Hatoyama, Kan, and Noda.

It was not only in the last 25 years that Japan rose to world economic power status. Japan Inc. has been a global trademark as far back as the ‘80s. And in the early ‘60s, ain’t the Philippines prided itself as second only to Japan in economic development in Asia?? Two.

Never did the Filipino nation expect BS Aquino III to do the same in six years. All that was wished of him was to do his best as president within his mandated term. And then leave leading the country to a successor. Mahirap ng (sic) makahanap ng matino at magaling na Presidente.

One More Term for PNoy That amounts to an insult to our race. Over 100 million Filipinos and it’s a hell of a task to find just one damn good leader, other than their PNoy? Really now, this only-PNoy mindset smacks of the Martial Law propaganda of “Marcos now more than ever.” Of “No substitute for Marcos.

No substitute for victory.” Of “Marcos pa rin.” Taking it a little further in the historical timeline, we find parallel here with Louis XV’s apres moi, le deluge. “The problem is not with Marcos. The problem is after Marcos, WHAT?” So the Martial Law propaganda machine was wont to postulate then.

Ipagpatuloy ang nasimulan sa tuwid na daan. One more term for PNoy. So the yellow spinmeisters are pushing now.

We have seen the changes that he started. It is for us Filipinos to support his advocacy for a better Philippines. One more term for PNoy. Mayhaps fully resigned to his misfortune of being “the President the Philippines will never have,” Mar Roxas has taken unto himself yet another persona in his ever-lengthening list of character roles: from palengkero, tri-sikad driver, boy pick-up, hawi boy to Janet Napoles, kargador, traffi c enforcer to now bastonero of the one-more-term-for-PNoy movement.

Roxas it was that first floated the possibility of Aquino seeking a second term, in an interview over ANC early this month, thus: “Kung ako ang tatanungin, at ito ay walang pahintulot sa Pangulo. At wala ring konsultasyon sa partido ko ito. Ito akin lang ito. Dapat mas mahaba ang termino ni Pangulong PNoy.

Kasi nakita na natin kung saan niya tayo dinala. At sino pa ba kundi siya ang pinakamabuti at pinakamahusay na makakapagpatuloy nito (If you ask me, and this is without permission from the President. And also without any consultation with my party.

This is solely mine. The term of President Aquino should be made longer. We have seen where he has taken us. Who else but he himself could best continue what he has started).” See Roxas mouthing there all those one-more-term-for-PNoy blurbs posted on Facebook. Or didn’t you notice?

Over the weekend, Roxas made the disclosure that “threats to democracy and good governance” constrained BS Aquino III to change his mind about amending the Constitution and consider another term in office. Straight from Roxas now: “Nakikita ni PNoy yung mga threats sa kalusugan ng demokrasya, sa kagandahan sa pagpapatakbo sa ating bansa (PNoy sees the threats to the health of democracy, threats to good governance in our country).”

If Roxas were to be believed, then BS Aquino III veritably channelled Marcos there: “…the compelling necessity arises out of the seven grave threats to the existence of the Republic: the Communist rebellion, the rightist conspiracy, the Muslim secessionist movement, the rampant corruption on all levels of society, the criminal and criminal-political syndicates – including the private armies – the deteriorating economy and the increasing social injustice.”

Thus, Proclamation No. 1081. To save the Republic. That was Marcos’ raison d’etre for Martial Law. And – in direct contravention of his express aims – he went on to preside over the death of the Republic.

To save democracy. That is BS Aquino III’s reason for his assent to now amend the Constitution and extend the president’s term of office.

Give in to this BS and lose democracy in this country.
Let there be no other Marcos in Malacañang.
Even if he carried the name Aquino.
