MALOLOS CITY—Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and his running mate Senator Mar Roxas visited Bulacan on Wednesday to give embattled Governor Joselito Mendoza moral support.

Their arrival was greeted with cheers by Mendoza’s supporters, and jeers by supporters of returning Governor Roberto Pagdanganan, who is now with the Nacionalista Party. He will run for Congress in the first district of Bulacan in the May polls.

In a brief speech, Roxas vowed to give Mendoza full legal support in the election protest filed by Pagdanganan in 2007 but Comelec affirmed the latter’s victory last Monday.

“Maling-mali ang desisyon ng Comelec en banc,” said Roxas, the president of the Liberal Party.

He alleged that Comelec’s decision was politicized and warned that Pampanga Governor Eddie Panlilio and other party-mates might suffer the same.

Both Mendoza and Panlilio joined the LP late last year, and both are facing separate election related cases in the Comelec.

For his part, Aquino called for sobriety among Bulakenyos and advised them not to resort to violence.

“Dapat tayong manatiling payapa habang hinihiling natin na ibigay ang karapatan ni Gov. Mendoza na marinig ang kanyang panig ayon sa proseso,” Aquino said.

Earlier, Mendoza said that they will seek redress before the Supreme Court with regards to Comelec en banc’s decision released on Monday.

The said decision denied Mendoza’s motion for reconsideration and affirmed the decision issued by its second division on December 1 that nullified Mendoza’s proclamation. It also ordered him to vacate the governor’s office to give way to Pagdanganan.

The recent Comelec en banc’s decision also granted Pagdanganan’s request for writ of execution pending appeal.

Pagdanganan assumed the gubernatorial post yesterday after the Comelec issued the resolution on Monday.

His supporters said Pagdanganan is waiting for a representative from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to implement the Comelec decision.

However, it was not served on Wednesday due to the untimely visit of Aquino and Roxas.

Joey Munsayac, close supporter of Pagdanganan said “ayaw makisabay kung nandyan sina Noynoy, baka magkagulo pa.”
