Moncada wins Street Dancing competition

THE municipality of Moncada bested seven other entries to win this year’s KanLahi Street Dancing competition before a jam-packed crowd at the Maria Cristina Park, March 6.

The grand winners, which were cheered by Moncada Mayor Estelita Aquino garnered an average score of 96.47% edging second place Bamban which garnered 96.33%. Placing third is the entry of the municipality of San Manuel with an average score of 91.33%.

By winning the competition, Moncada was awarded P75,000 while Bamban and San Manuel were given P50,000 and P35,000 respectively. Other participants were the City of Tarlac, Victoria, Anao, Pura, and Capas who were all awarded P25,000 each.

Moncada was likewise named the Best in Props with Bamban winning the Best in Costume. Both municipalities received P30,000. A special award was also given by Tarlac second district Representative Christian Yap to Moncada and Bamban.

Governor Susan Yap, in her message, congratulated and praised all the street dancing participants.

“Tarlaqueños are indeed talented and I am happy to see the mayors of each participant cheering their respective teams. Congratulations to Moncada, Bamban and San Manuel. Mabuhay ang Tarlac,” she said.

Joining Gov. Yap and Aquino on stage were Mayors Alice Guo of Bamban, Jappy de Dios of Anao, Rex Villa Agustin of Victoria and Donya Tesoro of San Manuel and Board Member Joy Gilbert Lamorena.

Judges for the competition were National Commission for Culture and the Arts Committee on Dance Chairperson Dr. Shirley Halili-Cruz, Panagbenga Cultural Committee Chairperson Rebecca Lim-Nulud and Cultural worker Anthony Cruz.—Arvin F. M. Cabalu
