Mixed metaphors

Father Roland Moraleja of Lubao either flipped the wrong page of his Bible or was absent when his English teachers taught metaphors. But, come to think of it, was it really a sacrilege to compare the Lord Jesus to Gloria Macapagal Arroyo? Of course not.

However, you should not mix the points of trajectories and departures. Or, you commit not only the blunder of mixing metaphors but a crime worthy of an ex-communicado.

The Lord Jesus, indeed, humbled himself when He descended from heaven to be one of us—lowly humans. This was a supreme sacrifice since this eventually caused the precious life of the Savior. Instead of mourning for His death, we are grateful, for humanity’s own resurrection is assured.

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, on the other hand, is stepping out of her thrown leaving many of our lives— lowly, and in clear and real danger, as sampled in the Maguindanao massacre. However and wherever Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will eventually resurrect is not clear, but nobody makes a second guess as to why she needs to resurrect.

The crap that public service is encoded in her DNA is like believing that the devil was born to love the poor he is willing to trade places.

Auxiliary Bishop Virgilio David is exacting, the President’s running for congress makes her a lawbreaker (and I may add, she should be brought to Muntinlupa immediately as she might continuously harm not only herself but also all of us). Bishop David adds that the behavior is sinful.

But the sinful act that Bishop David speaks of should not be confined to simply getting a seat in the (honorable) house of Congress. The list is there: Macapagal Highway project, NBN-ZTE deal, Fertilizer scam, the death of young Burgos, Hello Garci conversation, to drop just a few.

And to raise the ante of mayhem and terror, 57 or so people were either maimed, raped, tortured and were all summarily executed in Maguindanao. Bringing the act synonymous to the ones designed by such historical evil as Hitler, Pol Pot or Bush. Since the planned and literal covering of dead bodies failed, the (responsible) Malacañang occupant needed a more acceptable cover up—Martial Law.

Yes Oholliab, the devilish acts are all connected, like a dingy chain that deprives us of oxygen.

Pacifico Agabin, the former dean of UP College of Law, was clear: the only grounds for a declaration of martial law are invasion and rebellion. There was no invasion. The Ampatuans are not foreigners by any stretch of imagination. They’re a cut from our very loins, height and all.

Indeed, there was no rebellion. The Amapatuans did not, are not, and will not rebel. There are no indications whatsoever. For why will you rebel to the power that has blessed you and your clan with mansions, with guns, with body guards and with unimaginable wealth that only God will not fear to audit?

The Ampatuan greed has not reached a point that they would want to be the Lord of the Warlords. Again, there are no indications whatsoever.

The Ampatuans are simply behaving the way this government wants them to behave. The Ampatuans behave the way they behave because they have proven time and time again that they can deliver— votes and all.

Who’s the culprit in all these evil acts? Not the puppets, for we all know that puppets only move when puppets are moved. Little children know this even if they bask on the shroud of doubts.

Philippine National Police Chief Jesus Verzosa is all-wrong. The purpose of Martial Law in Maguindanao is not about to solve the massacre. Martial Law completely covers it. Liza Hontiveros of Akbayan Partylist is right. Martial Law will not solve the Maguindanao massacre, the rule of law will.

Father Moraleja should be taking lessons from Bishop David, and we all should be, if only to get the right use of metaphors, better still, to learn the meanings behind our lives.

If comparison is indeed necessary to clear the eyes of our people, especially our children, then Gloria Macapagal Arroyo should not be compared to the Lord Jesus. The one that gave the Lord the kiss of betrayal will do.
