BALANGA CITY — Minors aged 12 to 17 years old on Wednesday trooped to two inoculation centers in this city for their first vaccine dose against the coronavirus disease.

The youth belong to the pediatric population without comorbidities.

They stood in long lines at the Lou-is Resort while the others waited for their turn seated at the spacious Bataan People’s Center.

Parents joined the queue for as required, they have to accompany the minors who were asked to present identification cards or other documents as proof of relationship.

They were given Pfizer and Moderna, the vaccines allowed for the age group.

As early as 11:00 a.m., over 400 minors were already listed at the Lou-is jabbing site where vaccinators said they can administer more than 1,000 vaccine doses a day. There was still no data from the Bataan People’s Center.

A member of the Capitol Security Intelligence Unit who assists at the Bataan People’s Center said they were informed that vaccination will continue until all those in the building are vaccinated.

Gov. Albert Garcia said vaccination for the age group and other priority groups   will go on until there is available supply.

Inoculation will continue on Friday for minors aged 12 – 17 with comorbidities that started last October 29, the governor said.

Meanwhile, the number of active Covid- 19 cases continued to decrease, down to 573 on Tuesday.

Those who have tested positive of the virus reached 29,099 with the addition of 15 new confirmed cases while deaths stand at 1,168 after listing one new fatality.

There were 62 new recoveries that caused the number of those who have recovered to rise to 27,358.
