SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija – A 16-year-old boy confessed to killing his 68-year-
old grandmother and concealing her body inside the trunk of an SUV last month
ago, police said Wednesday.
Major Jaime Ferrer, acting municipal police chief, said the youth owned up to
stabbing to death Virginia del Rosario, resident of Barangay Castellano here on
July 30.
The admission was made by the suspect after authorities discovered the old
woman's body in advanced state of decomposition inside her SUV at a grassy
portion in the backyard of the victim's residence on Aug. 14, police added.
Forensic investigators also recovered the murder weapon, partially burnt, near
the vehicle through an information given by the suspect, Ferrer added.
The confession was made in the presence of the suspect's relative, he said.
Investigation disclosed that the victim earned the ire of her grandson in
steadfastly opposing his relationship with a minor.
The suspect's mother (the victim's daughter) allegedly asked the local police to
stand as the nominal complainant in the case, Ferrer reported.
The victim and the suspect live in the same house, investigators said. But the
suspect, a student, never returned home since the woman went missing, it was
learned.
"The suspect has been placed under the custody of the MSWDO (municipal social
welfare and development office) being a minor," said Ferrer.
The MSWDO also conducts a discernment test on the suspect, police added.
