CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, eldest child of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, filed here Friday his candidacy for congressman to replace his mother in this province’s second district where she is on her third and last term.
Mikey arrived here with Gov. Lilia Pineda and her son Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda who are seeking each other posts in next year’s local polls, as the governor is now also on her final term.
While Arroyo is running under his mother’s Lakas-CMD, the Pineda tandem is under the local party Kambilan.
Arroyo and the Pinedas were flanked at the Commission on Elections office here by 18 mayors seeking reelection under the local party.
Arroyo had served terms as elected congressman of this province’s second district as well as representative of the Ang Galing Pinoy Partylist. Before his congressional stint, he had served as Pampanga vice governor for three terms.
There is yet no word on whether Mikey’s mother, who is now House Speaker, is seeking any political post in next year’s elections.
As of yesterday, the Comelec has not received any report of untoward incident in connection with the filing of certificates of candidacy in Central Luzon.
