BALANGA City – Different kinds of migratory water birds on Wednesday began to flock and feed on remaining shallow waters of dry fishponds in this Bataan city. Seen were not only the common white birds known as egret but hordes of longlegged birds called blackwinged stilt in the company of some plovers. Some terns continuously flew and dived for food.

Present were little and intermediate egret and still have not arrived are the large egret.

The large egret and many any other species of water birds escaping the harsh winter months in mainland Asia and Europe are expected to arrive this week in marshes, fishponds and wetlands in the city.

The birds will stay and feed in Balanga City and neighboring towns until last week of March to return to their countries of origin in time for the breeding season.

The water birds during this period can be viewed in the seaside villages of Puerto Rivas Ibaba and Itaas, Tortugas, Lote and Sibacan in Balanga and even in the neighboring towns of Abucay, Pilar and Samal.
