The Department of Health-Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH CLCHD), together with its Men’s Health Program (MHP) implementers and partners, spearheaded the regional celebration of Men’s Health Month (MHM) which aimed to heighten public awareness on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of health issues that affect men. The majority of men’s health issues are preventable and manageable, however, reasons such as misconceptions, lack of awareness, and fear, influence the behavior/decision-making among men in accessing and/or utilizing available health services.

This year’s theme, “Responsableng Juan kaisa ng bayan para sa ligtas, matatag, at panatag na buhay!” highlights the indispensable role that men play as a responsible and productive member of society. Moreover, it underscores the premise that men are clients who have their own reproductive health concerns; partners who recognize that their own health impacts their partners’ well-being; and change agents who are capable advocates for gender transformation. The theme also promotes BIDA Solusyon Plus behaviors among men against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Men’s Health Month also coincides with Father’s Day celebration in honor of fatherhood and paternal bonds. With the influence that fathers have in the society, this celebration provides a considerable opportunity to educate, encourage, and inspire men to take control of their health and enhance their relationships with their children, partners, and parents.

For these reasons, everyone particularly ‘Juans’ are strongly encouraged to practice the following habits to avoid or prevent the development of various diseases/illnesses that may significantly affect the quality of their lives:

  1. Observance of general safety precautions (eg. minimum public health standards);
  2. Undergoing medical consultation at least once a year or as necessary;
  3. Regular meditation and exercise;
  4. Employment of self-care and stress-reduction strategies;
  5. Elimination, or at least reduction, of alcohol intake and tobacco use;
  6. Consumption of a well-balanced and healthy diet; and
  7. Awareness on one’s family medical history

The DOH CLCHD urges everyone in our society to empower men to make healthier choices and drumbeat the #MensHealthMatters advocacy!
