CLARK FREEPORT – This province’s food processing firm Mekeni Food Corp. (Mekeni) stood recently on equal grounds with other prominent foreign companies as recipient of this year’s Century International Quality Era (CQE) Gold Award in Geneva, Switzerland.
In awarding ceremonies in Geneva, Mekeni joined other awardees that included the ICIVI Bank of India, Istanbul Shipyard of Turkey, Telecom of Cambodia, Turner Construction Construction and Ogasco LLC of the United Arab Emirates, Saimaa Beverages of Finland, Grand Thornton Russian Appraisal of Russia, and Saudi Iron and Steel Co. of Saudi Arabia.
Mekeni is the first food processing firm to bag the Geneva-based award. In 2006, it was also the first food processing firm in Asia to be given ISO-22000 certification.
Mekeni President Prudencio Garcia received the CQE Gold Award during the 14th Business Initiative Directions (BID) Century International Quality Era Convention held March 11 at the Intercontinental Geneve Convention Hall.
BID President and Chief Executive Officer Jose Prieto handed out the awards in the presence of outstanding personalities in the business world and members of Switzerland’s diplomatic corps.
A material distributed during the awarding ceremonies noted that “the BID quality symbol is present in 178 countries around the world, creating a firm ground for the implementation of integral quality processes through the technology and procedures of the Quality Control 100 model of total quality management.”
Prieto said “the awarded companies are symbols of commitment to leadership, technology and innovation, making them models for others in their sectors.”
Garcia noted that “BID is currently the most important private organization in the world presenting a quality award on the basis of principles as solid as those of the Deming which is given only to Japanese companies, the Balridge which is given only to American companies, and the EFQM given only to European companies.”
“I consider the award a testimony to Mekeni”s continuing commitment to the highest standards of food quality and safety,” Garcia added. Mekeni manufactures hotdogs, logganiza, tocino, ham, and other processed foods.
