MABALACAT CITY – It’s an all systems go for this component city as the local government here under the leadership of Mayor Crisostomo Garbo is set to roll out its COVID-19 pediatric vaccination program for 5 to 11 age group.
In an announcement posted on February 16, 2022 at the Mabalacat City News Facebook Page, City COVID-19 Response Integrated System (CRIS) Chief Implementer Dr. Jose Antonio Rivera disclosed that the city’s 5-11 pediatric vaccination scheme is set to commence on Friday (February 18, 2022) at the SM City Clark – IMAX Cinema vaccination hub.
Dr. Rivera said that the city will pilot the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to indigent Mabalaqueño children using reformulated Pfizer BioNTech doses.
“Minabuti ng ating Mayor Cris Garbo and Vice Mayor Gerald Aquino na unahin ang mga kabataang nasa marginalized sector. Sila ang uunahin nating bakunahan ngayon biyernes sa SM City Clark,” the city’s COVID response czar said.
Meanwhile, CRIS Focal Person for Pediatric Vaccination Maricris David said that vaccination pre-registration is now ongoing in the city. The local government is urging parents and guardians to have their children pre-registered at their respective Department of Education (DepEd) schools (for children studying in the city), at the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) in City Hall (for children enrolled outside the city), or at their Day Care Centers.
For his part, Mabalacat City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said that the pandemic situation in the city is gradually improving as manifested by the drastic decline in daily COVID-19 infections and high patient recoveries after the surge of the Omicron variant in the Philippines last January 2022.
The city mayor attributes Mabalacat’s high recovery rate to having inoculated a substantial number of its residents against the dreaded disease. This circumstance brought Mabalacat City’s active COVID-19 cases down to 9, total recoveries at 8,524, and mortalities to 237 as of this writing.
