MORONG, Bataan – At least two still unidentified motorcycle riding men at dawn of Wednesday using an M-16 Armalite rifle fired several shots at the headquarters of a mayoral candidate here.

No one was hurt since no one was in the old house during the time of the incident.

The HQ in barangay Sabang is in the compound adjacent to the residence of Morong Vice-Mayor Jose Calma, Sr., 60, who is running for mayor under the banner of the Nacionalista Party.

Calma said he was awakened by bursts of gunfire at about 1:30 a.m. “Akala ko hindi bahay namin ang pinapaputukan kundi may nagpapaputok lamang sa kalsada sa tapat namin,” he said.

The vice-mayor said that a neighbor, a mechanic working during the night, said he saw two men in motorcycle strafed the HQ.

“Siguro gawa rin ng pulitika dahil tuwing eleksiyon ginagawa sa pangkat namin tulad noong nakaraang halalan nang humahabol ako bilang vice-mayor, pinaputukan din ang mga tao ko,” Calma said.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered 19 empty shells of M-16 near the gate of the compound which is also adjacent to the Sabang Bridge.

Police Officer 1 Christopher Bautista, Morong police investigator, said they were on duty at the police station when they heard sounds of gunshots. A police team immediately rushed to the crime scene but found no suspect.

Bautista said investigations showed that a man in motorcycle wearing crash helmet and black jacket fired the shots at dawn of Wednesday.
