STA. RITA, Pampanga – Mayor Yolanda Pineda led an inspection of flood-prone areas at the boundary of Sta. Rita and Porac towns, asking the provincial government and concerned agencies to help her find a permanent solution.

Pineda and Roy Imperial, adviser-consultant of Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda, made an ocular inspection at Barangays Dila Dila and San Basilio here.

The mayor said the two villages near Porac had been inundated by floods during strong rains. She added that barangays in Porac and Guagua had also been affected by the floods.

She said “in some occasions, the main road linking Sta. Rita to Porac was also flooded preventing vehicles from passing.”

The two-term mayor also invited engineers from the Pampanga Engineering Office (PEO) and National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to help in crafting an “effective engineering solution.”

Imperial said he had been instructed by Gov. Pineda to assist Mayor Pineda in “determining the cause of the problem and finding a solution.” He said that the floodwaters come from Porac and “stay in low-lying areas” in the two Sta. Rita barangays.

Imperial said the construction canals allowing the water to be dumped in a creek at the boundary of Porac and Sta. Rita is a “possible a solution.”

But he stressed that a “small river reservoir impounding project” would a be a better solution.

Mayor Pineda said that they will study the proposed engineering projects with the help of the provincial government.
