BAGAC, Bataan — The mayor of this town has asked the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to have returning overseas Filipino workers undergo swab tests and complete their 14-day quarantine before sending them off to their respective hometowns.
Mayor Ramil del Rosario said he made the appeal in a letter to OWWA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac.
“OFWs should undergo swabbing upon their arrival and strictly complete their 14 days of quarantine and undertake another swabbing exam before certifying that they are negative of the virus and sending them off to their area of residence,“ the mayor said.
He said that he made the request to avoid a repetition of what happened in Bagac where two returning OFWs were tested positive of the coronavirus disease.
“This tends to waste the efforts of the local government units and the people trying to make their communities Covid-19–free,” the mayor lamented.
Bagac town was reported to be without any Covid-19 case but that record was cut short with the arrival of the two workers from abroad.
Del Rosario said he was disappointed that government’s safety protocols were not strictly implemented and followed.
“We are one with the national government’s ‘We Heal as One’ program,” Del Rosario assured.
