ANGELES CITY – The city’s highly-urbanized status notwithstanding, Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II is keen in boosting agricultural and fishery programs through a range of initiatives for various sectors here.

In a meeting with farming members of the local indigenous community and coffee growers from Barangay Sapangbato, Lazatin instructed the city agriculture office headed Rea Dizon to ensure their enrolment in the Organic Agriculture Registry Systems under the CARISUCOS Angeles City Farmers Association to formalize organic farming practices, improve traceability, and promote fair market access.

The mayor also made it a point to visit the city agriculture compound to see firsthand ongoing programs such as the plant nursery, black soldier fly production, greenhouse, hydroponics, and the goat multiplier project.

Under the Corn and Cassava Banner Program, a shallow tube well was turned over by Lazatin to corn growers of the Barangay Sapalibutad Farmers Association.

Later, he joined a meeting of the Highly-Urbanized City Agricultural and Fisheries Council on strengthening agricultural and fisheries programs.

The agenda included the adoption of a resolution authorizing the city government to directly procure rice produce from Angeleño farmers for integration into the Plastic Palit Bigas program; the approval of one agricultural scholarship per agricultural barangay—Cuayan, Cutud, Sapalibutad, and Sapangbato—to support students pursuing BS Agriculture in institutions like the Pampanga State Agricultural University PSAU; the submission of compliance requirements to the Department of Agriculture Region 3 for the accreditation of the CARISUCOS Angeles City Farmers Association; and the presentation of the revolving funds for the Enhanced KADIWA Bangus Program.
