Mayor EdSa champions senior citizens’ role, service

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Some 500 senior citizens from 36 barangays of this city were gathered on Thursday at the Mini Convention Center, Heroes Hall to celebrate their valuable role and contributions in improving the quality of life of all Fernandinos.

Dubbed as “Aldo Da Ring Mangatua,” the elected senior citizen officers took their oath to serve their respective barangays and constituents before Mayor Edwin Edsa Santiago, Vice Mayor Jimmy T. Lazation, Councilor Tina Lagman, Ms. Aileen Villanueva, CSWD Officer, and Architect Hermel Gulapa, Kaganapan 2020 Executive Committee Chairperson.

Santiago reminded the officers of their role in the development of the city.

“Your responsibility is great. You are given this position because your constituents believe that you are responsible, smart and with a heart for service. Help us, then, especially in inculcating good character to our youth,” the mayor said.

The mayor also championed the programs solely for their welfare such as: regular pension; hospitalization aides for the sick and neglected; and, the almost-completed Senior Citizens Facility in the Civic Center.

“We want you to be happy, healthy, and to get a good quality life here in San Fernando. Children and senior citizens are given equal priority because they are the hope and wisdom of the city,” Santiago added.

Aileen Villanueva, City Social Welfare and Development Officer, also encouraged the elderly to be one with the agenda of Mayor Santiago in promoting culture which should start in their respective families.

“Thank you po for your very active participation sa mga programa ng gobyerno na naglalayong mapa-angat at pahalagahan ang kulturang Pilipino, kulturang kapampanagan. Sana po patuloy kayong makiisa sa napakagandang hangarin ng ating lungsod,” Villanueva said.

Virginia Cristobal, President of Federation of Senior Citizen of San Fernando, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the City Government.

“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng mga programang ginagawa ng syudad upang matulungan kaming mga Senior Citizens. Kay Mayor EdSa, maraming salamat kasi lagi kaming nangunguna sa puso mo.”

The oath taking ceremony was followed by cultural presentations by Fernandino senior citizens from six clusters.

This is to foster camaraderie among each other which is the goal of this year’s Kaganapan with a theme: Fernandinong Abe-abe, Kabiayang Manawa at Matibe.”
