APALIT, Pampanga – Mayor Oscar “Jun” Tetangco celebrated his birthday on March 28 and announced that he is donating his own property worth P10 million for the realization of the first-ever public hospital here.
Tetangco said the hospital to be built by the municipal and provincial governments will answer the health care needs of his people especially the poor.
He said a friend had offered him at least P10 million for a 2,400 square meter lot along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Sampaloc.
“The hospital project could not kick off due to the fact that there is no lot available. Now, the first big step has been done,” Tetangco said.
“I recently sold my property beside it for P7 million and after sometime, the money is no longer there. So, it’s alright to give something huge just to make my people happy,” he added.
Tetangco said when he told his wife that he wants to donate their property for the hospital, she answered back: “Is the lot you are giving big enough for the hospital. Why not give something bigger?”
The two-term mayor said even his parents, including former Mayor Oscar Tetangco, were delighted by his decision to give the land for hospital.
“Our people have to travel to San Fernando for their medical needs. Even a private hospital is not operating in Apalit,” the mayor said
He also said Gov. Lilia “Baby” Pineda vowed to support his project by donating funds for the hospital building. Pineda is on an official trip to the USA and is set to return this week.
Tetangco added that he started his birthday by hearing a Mass together with municipal and barangay officials at 6:00 a.m. at the municipal hall.
He also opened yesterday the 4th JDT inter-barangay basketball cup where 12 teams will compete. He will give away P300,000 as cash price for the top winners. Tetangco disclosed that P200,000 will be given to the champion team.
