Mayor, bodyguard injured, 2 killed in vehicular accident

    SUBIC, Zambales–San Marcelino Mayor Elvis Soria and his bodyguard were seriously injured, while his driver and another companion died on the spot when their vehicle was struck by mini-bus at the bridge of Barangay Pamatawan of this town at dawn Wednesday.

    Soria was on board a Mitsubishi Strada (HBE-549) on his way home to San Marcelino when a shuttle bus of Hanjin (AKA-5482) collided with it head-on at Pamatawan bridge.

    Report said the mini-bus driven by Noly Ebidag, Jr., 36, resident of Barangay Lucapon South, Sta. Cruz, Zambales, was going on south direction when it crossed to the opposite lane and rammed into the mayor’s vehicle.

    Arlan Pascasio, the mayor’s driver, and passenger Manuel Rodriguez, 58, died on the spot.

    Soria and his bodyguard Ernesto Cudia were rushed to the Bay Point Hospital inside Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

    Police report said the bus driver tried to escape but was arrested by responding Subic policemen.

    Ebidag during investigation admitted he was drunk when the accident occurred. He is now facing multiple homicide, serious physical injuries and damage to property cahrges.
