DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – Mayor Maria Angela Garcia on Wednesday appealed to the national government to appropriate more funds for the Social Amelioration Program to reach more people in the country.
The mayor said that all local government units in the country faced the same challenges in the SAP allocation: “Ang unang challenge ay ang kakulangan sa bilang ng pamilya na isinama ng Department of Social Welfare and Development upang makatanggap ng subsidy.”
She said that in Dinalupihan, for example, there are more than 32,000 families but only 12,925 families benefitted from the SAP subsidy of P6,500 each, payout completed on the May 10 deadline.
“So, kalahati lang ng kabahayan o pamilya sa aming bayan ang nakatanggap ng tulong mula sa DSWD,” she said.
The mayor noted that those in the informal sector were identified as SAP beneficiaries, leaving those in the formal sector who have no work also but were disqualified.
“Gusto sana nating hilingin sa national government na ang mga ‘no work no pay’ , ang mga hindi makatrabaho dahil hindi lahat ng kumpanya pwedeng mag-operate, ay maabutan din ng tulong,” Garcia said.
