ANGELES CITY – “It’s not just beauty and brains but a firm commitment to genuine public service."

This was the collective message of Barangay Margot officials as they recently gave a “Public Service Award” to beauty queen-turned-public servant Councilor Maricel “Marang” Morales.

“Marang is a dedicated and hardworking official. She has also fought for our rights and privileges at the city council. She truly deserves the award,” they added.

Led by Village Chief Edgar Ocampo, the Margot officials gave the award to Morales in simple ceremonies at the barangay hall last week.

The first-term councilor, for her part, said “I owe my position to the people and they deserve to get back only what’s good for them.”

Morales expressed gratitude to Margot officials for recognizing her efforts in helping their people, especially the poor ones. She had sponsored several feeding programs in Margot since she won her post in 2007.

“I could not give all what the people need. But a full stomach can make public school students understand well the lessons for the day,” said Morales, who is seeking re-election under the ticket of mayoralty aspirant Sec. Edgardo “Ed” Pamintuan

Other Margot officials who graced the event were Councilors Lai Tayag, Noemi Ocampo, Lita Caparas, Clarita Nogoy, Nestor Poy-Lorenzo, J.R. David, secretary Divi Macabanti, treasurer Josie Toress, and Mario Aguilar Ponyok Lising, and Totu Espiritu.
