TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – Presidential candidate former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. promised on Tuesday to uplift the agriculture sector once elected to the country’s highest position.

This as Marcos, along with running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and some of those in their Senate slates, held a motorcade from Cabanatuan City to this municipality for a sortie.

On the roadsides, residents waited amid rains.

Before staging a rally at Barangay Andal AliƱo in this first-class municipality, the UniTeam spoke before a crowd at the residential compound of Gov. Aurelio Umali in Barangay Soledad, Santa Rosa.

“Aayusin po natin ang agrikultura para sapat ang ating pagkain at magka-trabaho muli,” Marcos said.

Nueva Ecija which has some 1.5 million voters is dubbed as a rice granary.

Other presidential wannabes, particularly Sen. Emmanuel Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso who came to Nueva Ecija ahead of Marcos had also pledged support to farmers.

Pacquiao and Domagoso, however, came out with more detailed programs as they fielded questions from the media during their respective sorties.

At the sortie, the crowd chanted “Hindi kami bayad,” several times.
