ANGELES CITY – More than 200 women inmates at Angeles City Jail benefited from the outreach program of actress-councilor Maricel “Marang” Morales.
Morales had prepared snacks and distributed grocery items to the inmates. Bed sheets, pillows and towels were donated by Hotel Sogo-Dau represented by branch manager Mar De Jesus.
“If only I could give cheers to all of them, including males, I will but I still can’t as they are more than 1,000 now,” said Morales, who expressed gratitude to Hotel Sogo for assisting her in her project.
“I decided to spend most of the Yuletide season with our sisters here to share my blessings and spread the meaning of sharing,” said Morales.
She disclosed that other members of the “Pamitastic 4” – Councilors Edu Pamintuan, Jericho Aguas and Alex Indiongco – also contributed to the success of the project.
Pamintuan said what’s “good about Marang’s project is that aside from giving goods, she really spends time with inmates.” He added that Morales’ sincerity and dedication in public service is worth emulating.
For her part, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting said that “during the Yuletide season the inmates are often the ones forgotten.”
Cabigting, who also sponsors regular gift-giving program for inmates, said Morales’ project is very timely.
The vice mayor also added that she is willing to coordinate and work with Morales for a combined outreach program for their target beneficiaries.
“This is not about politics. It’s about public service.”
For his part, De Jesus said “Sogo management’s recognizes and helps worthy projects of public officials.”
