SCIENCE CITY OF MUNOZ – Police are running after a tricycle driver for allegedly robbing and attempting to rape a student of the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) here at the height of typhoon Quiel at about 1 p.m. on Oct. 1.
Supt. Pedro Soliba, city police chief, said the suspect who was armed with a knife managed to cart away valuables, including jewelries but failed to rape the victim. Police are still trying to establish the identity of the suspect.
The victim, a 23-year-old coed, was accompanied by a university professor identified as Dr. Dina Romano and members of the University Security Force of CLSU in reporting the incident at the city police office last Oct. 3.
The victim told the police that a male classmate called the tricycle driver parked at a waiting shed at Gate 2 of CLSU to ferry her to her boarding house. The victim just finished her duty in a university facility.
The boarding house, a housing unit for university employees, was situated at Lingap Kalikasan section of the campus.
However, upon reaching the arch, the driver said they had to stop because of flat tire but he instead went fast to the door of the sidecar and declared a hold-up, police reported.
The victim tried to escape while the suspect was preoccupied in searching for more valuables from her bags but to no avail.
The suspect pushed her inside the tricycle, punched her stomach and with a knife pointed threatened her,” Soliba said in his report to the police provincial office.
While the coed was fighting back, the suspect then forcibly removed some of the victim’s clothing and “tried to penetrate” but failed, the report added.
The suspect fled as the victim run to the nearest residence for help, it added.
Soliba said they are coordinating with the CLSU security office and may go as afar as checking the security protocol inside the campus.
