BALANGA CITY — SM City Bataan joined forces with the provincial government of Bataan, city government here and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in launching a mangrove adoption and protection project on Nov. 14.
Present during the launch were officials and members of the Samahan ng Mangingisda, Tinig ng Mandaragat, provincial Board of Bataan, provincial government of Bataan and city government of Balanga and officers and workers of SM City Bataan.
They enjoyed planting mangrove propagules along the coastal area adjacent to Manila Bay in Barangay Pto. Rivas Ibaba in this city.
SM City Bataan said it understands the crucial role in maintaining coastal ecosystems of mangroves that act as natural barriers against typhoon and storm surges and provide natural habitat for various marine life.
The Bataan supermall recognizes the importance of mangroves and the power of partnerships so it participated in this initiative to enhance the resilience of the local environment and promote biodiversity.
“Through a shared commitment to conservation, this initiative is sowing the seeds for a more resilient and sustainable future for Bataan’s coastal communities,” said Paula Gayeta, SM City Bataan public relations officer.
Last August 1, a memorandum of agreement for the Balanga mangrove adoption and protection project was signed by SM vice president for mall operations Junias Eusebio,Bataan Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd , and Balanga City Mayor Francis Garcia.
