ANGELES CITY – “Pay your obligations and debts first before even dreaming of a multi-million sports complex.”

Thus said yesterday Balibago Barangay Captain Rodelio “Tony” Mamac as he urged the city government to pay its P60 million debt to the Kalangitan landfill in Capas, Tarlac. He added that the administration of Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno had reportedly incurred some P20-million debts from the Angeles Electric Company (AEC).

“There is no problem with the solid waste management of the city as long as we pay our debts to the landfill firm,” said Mamac.

“Before anything else, the mayor and his people should pay its existing obligations before thinking of making loan for an untimely project such as the P681 million sports facility,” he added.

Asked for his comments, City Administrator Mark Allen Sison, in a text message, yesterday said his doctors had advised him to rest and to avoid stress. He reportedly acquired chickenpox and would report back to work on Monday.

Sison earlier said the city government had incurred debt from the Capas landfill “because it’s expensive and difficult to follow the law (Republic Act 9003).”

But he stressed that Nepomuceno had asked them to follow the law on solid waste management.

Mamac challenged Nepomuceno to prove his statements that the city “has sound financial management.” He disclosed that the city government should have remitted the real property tax (RPT) shares of 33 villages here last April 5.

“It’s been how many days and we don’t have our shares yet,” said Mamac, who earlier lambasted the city government for the delay of the release of their RPT and tax credit.
