Good Chocolate

A quick but tasty lunch at downtown Kuala Lumpur had rejuvenated us again.

We were off to our next destination in this city: The Chocolate Gallery which opened in 2005.

Eating too much chocolate causes pimples. That’s quite true, according to Chocolate Gallery Manager Michael Thong in his briefing to journalists at the second floor of the show-room facility. But that depends on the ingredients of the chocolate to sweeten it.

Thong disclosed that their chocolate products are made of the finest local products – minus the cholesterol-filled cocoa used by some manufactures all over the world.

”Our products are 99 percent Malaysian, the remaining one percent for the Belgian technology to make our chocolates,” said Thong. “It’s quite expensive because we go for quality and our products are unique.”

Among the favorite flavors are the durian-filled chocolate, energy booster Tongkat Ali (recommended for men) and Tiramisu, which was given to each of us by Thong as complement.

I gave my Tiramisu at home and tasted a few of it. Oh my, it’s superbly delicious – costing about P800 pesos and weighing 150 grams.

Chocolate Gallery is not just a food outlet but an attraction here. It has attracted visitors and customers from over 80 countries. Beat that, Swiss chocolate makers.

Twin Towers

The Petronas Twin Towers majestically stands at the height of 451.9 meters in the heart of this city. It was once the highest building in the world and featured in a  Hollywood movie starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

We were prevented as scheduled from seeing up close and having photo sessions at Petronas. The strong rains dropped while we were at the Chocolate Gallery.

So Bessie and the group decided to skip the city tour and we proceeded to Coronade Hotel here where we were billeted for an overnight stay.

Micheal Lim, managing director of the My Axis Travel and Tours in Selangor and Malaysian partner of Bessie, had set up an appointment for us with the Malaysian Tourism Office.

After a short briefing from the cordial tourism staff and official, we decided to visit Petronas because our flight the following day require us to be at early at the airport for the 7:20 a.m. AirAsia flight to Clark.

The Twin Towers of Malaysia are so famous that you should line at about 4 a.m. to get one of the 1,000 maximum free entrances offered daily. Visitors can go up to 41st floor where the bridge adjoining the towers is located.

The Petronas oil company building is a world-renowned icon of a modern Malaysia. I admired its architectural designs and its steel materials are shining from where I stood.

I salute the men and women behind the construction of a sight to behold in this city.

Our group had been given the chance to roam around downtown KL on Thursday night. We were cramming to buy stuffs for our friends and loved ones.

Travel and ladies bags, clothes, electronic items such as cameras and cell phones are inexpensive at the many malls here. Best of all, you can ask for discounts as much as 30 percent per product from the friendly sellers who are mostly Chinese-Malaysian.

Well, some good things never last – such as our four-day trip at East Malaysia. We have explored its beauty – and discovered that God’s finest gifts to men are truly beautiful once you nurture them instead of otherwise.

Malaysia, truly Asia, Terimah kasi.
