ANGELES CITY – A business group here presented a proposed road infrastructure project to the new city mayor and the veteran congressman aimed at pushing progress and development in this highly urbanized city, Clark Freeport and nearby areas.

Frankie Villanueva, president of Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (MACCI) said his group would help Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Pampanga First District Rep. Carmelo Lazatin draw up plans to improve the infrastructure projects here focusing on the expansion of major roads.

Lazatin, Pamintuan, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting and Mabalacat Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales attended MACCI’s meeting at the Stotsenberg Hotel in Clark on Wednesday.

Pamintuan, in his speech, vowed to expand “the road linking us to the heart of the city.” He was referring to the Pandan Road which became busy after the establishment of Marquee Mall in Barangay Pulung Maragul.

He said the improvement of traffic flow and expansion of roads would be one of his priorities this year.

Pamintuan also disclosed that he will work for the creation of the new road linking Panings, Telabastagan, City of San Fernando to Pandan Road to decongest traffic in the area. He added that the road will pass by Barangay Capaya.

Lazatin, for his part, said he wants to finish the “vital road projects in one stroke” with the help of MACCI and Pamintuan.

He stressed that the “genuine partnership of his office and that of Pamintuan” would result to “many finished projects.”

In the study, the MACCI proposed either the improvement or creation of the following roads in the city: East Circumferential Road, East-West Road, Marlim Street-Marlim Avenue, Aniceto Gueco Street, Malabanias Road, Sto. Rosario St. and Angeles-Magalang road.

Holiday Inn Clark General Manager Simon Morley said that the development of infrastructures in this city “would create more business opportunities” not just in Clark but in nearby areas, notably in this city and Mabalacat.

In the same event, MACCI, Pamintuan and Lazatin signed an agreement for the partnership for “better infrastructure project.”

MACCI, in a statement, said the “partnership is a timely response to the challenge posed by the government for increased civil society participation in governance.”

He said “tourists have limited time” and it’s important for them to have access to reliable roads. He attended the meeting of MACCI.

MACCI member Arni Valdes, for his part, said Pamintuan should identify the roads “needing immediate repair.” He added that once the repair operation starts, the flow of traffic should be put into consideration.
