MABALACAT CITY — What was once a creepy place ideal for horror stories has been given a major facelift where buried loved ones are laid in bliss as the city government here has completed clean up and repair of public cemeteries for free.
City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said that since he assumed his post in 2017, he allocated funding for the cleaning and repainting of the tombs at the public cemeteries in the city.
This undertaking has reaped praises especially from netizens as the cemeteries have been neglected in the past.
The mayor started the project to help his constituents, specifically the indigents, prepare the grave of their departed kin for All Saints’ Day. It has been a long-time tradition of the Filipinos during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day to gather and light candles as they offer flowers at the grave of their departed loved ones.
“Since we assumed office in 2017, we started cleaning the public cemeteries to give our kabalen a comfortable visit to their departed loved ones,” Garbo furhtered.
City Administrator Atty. Emmanuel Ignacio said members of the Maintenance Coordinating Group – Public Safety Office are working double time in cleaning and repainting the walls and graveyards of the Mabalacat Municipal Cemetery in Aguso, Brgy. San Francisco and in Mangalit, this city.
“This project is initiated by Mayor Cris Garbo since he took his oath as the city mayor. And the project is now on its third year,” Ignacio added.
Meantime, Gary – a resident of Barangay San Francisco – lauded Mayor Garbo’s initiative to clean and repaint public cemeteries in this city.
“Kami po ay nagpapasalamat kay Mayor Garbo dahil kahit sa mga yumao naming kamaganakan ay nakakarating pa rin ang kanyang libreng serbisyo, katulad nitong pagpapalinis at pagpinta ng mga puntod sa pampublikong sementeryo. Tunay po ang serbisyong hatid ng ating butihing Mayor ay para sa lahat,” Gary stressed.
