ANGELES CITY – Stressing the importance of cleanliness in the work place, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) district office here recently held a clean-up day in support of the agency’s program to prioritize cleanliness and orderliness in their offices nationwide.

Angeles District chief transportation regulations officer Aida Santiago said the clean-up drive was in connection with the directive of the LTO head office for the district and regional offices to commit to the 5S Standards.

Santiago, quoting the LTO’s directive, said the 5S Standards means “sorting, set in order, sweeping or shining, standardizing and sustaining the discipline —is a method for organizing a workplace, especially a shared workplace and keeping it organized.”

Santiago said their office had clean-up activities regularly with or without the directives from their head office. She added that the LTO main office had inspected the implementation of the 5S standards in Pampanga on a regular basis.

Santiago said their employees—13 organic and three job-order workers—are required to come earlier than 8 a.m. to clean up their office before accommodating the first client for the day and shortly after they serve the last transaction in the afternoon.

Last year, Angeles City ranked first in the region in the implementation of the 5S Standards. On April 23, 2009, it was cited as “model district” by LTO chief Arturo Lomibao for “efficient and dedicated service rendered to the transacting public.”

Santiago disclosed that they process more than 500 transactions daily for driver’s license renewal and motor vehicle registration. The district office collected more than P125 million for its transactions in 2008.
