MARILAO, Bulacan—Senator Loren Legarda has the full support of the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition (NPC) giving her right to form alliance with other parties.
However, she remained evasive who will be her running mate but made assurance that when she files her candidacy, she will have a running mate for President.
Legarda said she will disclose her decision by November 23, which some critics labeled as some sort of “political striptease.”
“NPC gave 100 percent support and the right na makipag-aliyansa sa ibang partido,” said Legarda who earlier declared that she is running for the position of the Vice President in the 2010 automated elections.
This prompted journalists to ask her to confirm if she will actually ran as Vice President to Senator Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party (NP), or Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, the standard-bearer of the administration’s Lakas-Kampi party.
Both Villar and Teodoro were rumored to have been wooing Legarda as their running mate since the two do not have running mates yet.
But Legarda was evasive saying she will only disclose her running mate if he was able to plant 1-million trees referring to her environmental advocacy.
When asked if she will run without a president, she said “siguradong magkakaroon ng presidente.
When pressed for answer when she will decide, Legarda said she will disclose her decision by November 23.
As chair of the Senate’s Committee on Climate Change, Legarda visited Marilao town on Friday and presided over in a public consultation.
The public consultation was first schedule at the Marilao Convention Center located at the Constantino Village in Barangay Poblacion.
However, organizers said Legarda made a last minute decision to hold the consultation meeting beside the Marilao River at the Ramcar Subdivision in Barangay Saog here.
Some participants in the meeting complained on the sudden change of venue saying it appear to speak of Legarda fickle-mindedness.
They said that Legarda made the same last minute decision when invited to Bulacan’s Singkaban Fiesta celebration last September.
In that invitation, Legarda confirmed her attendance, but later called it off.
