ANGELES CITY – “The village chief should look into the mirror before talking about graft and corruption.”
Thus said yesterday City Administrator Mark Allen Sison in reaction to the statements of Barangay Captain Rodelio “Tony” Mamac that “he will not allow graft and corruption to happen” in Balibago, the premiere business district here.
Sison said the allegations of Mamac that the city government had failed to act against the extortion activities in entertainment bars “was a political stunt.”
“It gained a little political mileage. No one really believed him, including former policemen,” said Sison of Mamac, a former police official, who sponsored a tourism summit here on Monday and exposed alleged extortion activities at Fields Avenue and nearby areas where the entertainment bars are.
“Mamac has declared he will run for mayor and this is plain and simple politics,” added Sison.
He said Mamac could stop or “do something” about the so-called Jojo Group in his capacity as village chief of Balibago.
“Why go to media, assuming the Jojo Group exists?” he added.
Sison urged Mamac and American Businessman Jim Dale to “file appropriate charges against the Jojo Group or anyone extorting from the bar owners.”
Asked to comment about the statements of Dale that the mayor could not be reached, Sison said “he is getting too old to remember.”
Sison said Dale had visited the mayor as part of a group and alone.
“I have seen him visit the mayor. He knows the mayor ever since he was a congressman,” said Sison.
Sison also debunked the claim of Mamac that the “inaction” of the mayor against abuses on women is contrary to the celebration of the Women’s Month.
“We have lined activities to celebrate it and for the benefit of women,” he added.
