IT LIVED up to its billing – “A timeless tale of love told in music (with no less than the Manila Symphony Orchestra), dance, magic, acrobatics and breathtaking stunts (performed by an international cast half of which is Filipino.)”
That is Kaos – ”Las Vegas meets Broadway spectacle” at the world-class Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resort World Manila (RWM), the country’s newest destination. The show premiered as part of Grand Fiesta Manila 2010 held November 25-28, ahead of its public run starting December 1.
A grand fiesta indeed that weekend with magnificent and colorful parades reminiscent of the Sinulog, Masskara and Ati-Atihan rolled into one; of the crowd getting to the groove with the likes of Journey front man Arnel Pineda, Earth, Wind and Fire featuring The Al McKay Allstars, Jed Madela, Sandwich, Pedicab, and Urbandub.
And food, glorious food at Ginzadon and Passion, where Hongkong’s Jacky Yu regaled us with the divine Sichuan spicy chicken.
Living up to its promise – the “Place to Play” – as well is RWM, the “first integrated tourism destination” in the country: the reality of the Pagcor-dreamed Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City yet to be, or may never be with its prime mover out of the gaming company.
Anyways, what spells RWM’s success are the Five A’s essential in the tourism industry which the bumbling honchos at the Department of Tourism ought to know by heart.
Access. A sprawl right across Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, RWM serves as instant gateway to the Philippines, and all its promises and potentials for adventure and leisure.
Accommodation. RWM is home to the first all-luxury-suite hotel in the country – 172 suites, 172 butlers – the six-star Maxims Tower; the five-star Marriott Hotel Manila; Remington Hotel, to open in the third quarter next year with “amenities at an affordable price to the budget traveler.” On the planning board yet is the 500-room Hamilton hotel.
Activities. Play is right on the mark here with the biggest gaming facility at Maxims Tower. Play too is at the adjacent Villamor championship golf course. Shop at the upscale Newport Mall for luxury brands, from Bulgari to Cartier, from Lacoste to Armani. Dine at the restaurants serving international cuisine.
Amenities. The 1,500-seat Newport Performing Arts Theater where Kaos is staged and high-end cinemas playing the latest films provide visual entertainment. There are spas, gyms and pools too.
Attractions. The Philippines is one world of wonders waiting to be experienced there.
Aye, RWM indeed lives up to all its collaterals of combining “lodging brands with a luxury mall and gaming facilities (with) the integrated concept allowing guests and visitors to tailor their lifestyle needs, whether for business or pleasure, or with family and friends.”
Truly, “RWM offers options that cannot be found elsewhere in the country, making it a one-stop shop for entertainment and leisure.”
Yeah, the leading brands at RWM are enough to believe all its says about itself.
Marriott, I have had wonderful experiences of, be it in San Francisco with the Most Rev. Apu Ceto in three pastoral visits; in Washington D.C. on the second honeymoon with the wife, but of course; in Cebu with media friends on a fam tour.
The Genting Group, venture partner of Alliance Global for RWM, I have had the privilege of experiencing too – at the Genting Highlands Resort in Malaysia a year or so ago; and with our Star Cruise aboard Superstar Virgo only this October.
Yeah, RWM makes the brightest spot in the country’s current tourism map.
