CABANATUAN CITY — A 48-year-old farmer was killed when lightning struck a rice field in Barangay Nangabulan, Talugtog, Nueva Ecija at about 1 p.m. Monday, police said.
The victim was identified as Danilo Ramos, married, resident of the said place.
Investigation showed Ramos was broadcasting rice seeds on his farmland when hit by lighting. “He fell on the ground unconscious,” reported Master Sgt. Ryan Reglos, police investigator.
Responders brought the victim to the municipal rural health unit clinic but was declared dead upon arrival by a physician.
“Ocular inspection and investigation were conducted at the place of incident and established that the cause of the accident was natural,” Reglos said a report to the provincial headquarters here.
On Monday too, a tornado occurred at a village in Palayan City at about 5:40 p.m., shortly before a downpour.
No injury caused by the weather phenomenon was reported.
