Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. continues to prioritize the welfare and health of all Angeleño youth amid the pandemic, through various programs such as the anti-polio vaccine campaign, milk and vitamin assistance, and improving their nutrition.
ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. remains true to his mission to promote the welfare and health of all Angeleño youth by strengthening existing programs that aim to prioritize them.
Mayor Lazatin bared this on Monday, December 7, during his “State of the Children Address,” where he laid down the city government’s programs focused on improving the lives of the Angeleño youth centering on their health, nutrition, education, and human rights.
In fact, the Lazatin administration has received numerous positive feedback from parents, who showed their gratitude for the assistance the city government has extended amid the challenges presented by the pandemic, particularly the formula milk assistance distributed house-to-house.
Norayda Ibrahim, a mother of two from Barangay Lourdes Sur, sent her message of thanks to the Mayor through a city hall employee who personally brought the milk assistance to her home.
“Binalikan pa talaga kami para maihatid yung mga gatas. Salamat dahil wala silang pinipiling bigyan,” Ibrahim shared.
A certain Gelo Cual Lozano, meanwhile, wrote “thank you” in the comments section of the City Information Office.
A resident named Em Chle wrote: “Salamat po sa gatas. Salute Mayor at mga front liners.”
The allocated P12 million for the procurement of milk has benefited 50,723 children in the city’s 33 barangays.
On the other hand, a highlight of Mayor Lazatin’s program for children was the achieved target number for the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio,” a nationwide campaign of the Department of Health for the distribution of the oral anti-polio vaccine.
A total of 43,392 children were given the said vaccine for the first wave, while 47,052 received the same vaccine on the second wave, giving Angeles City the highest recorded number of vaccinations in the whole Region III.
In a related development, Mayor Lazatin is also focusing on improving the kids’ nutrition and aiming for “zero malnourishment” in the city by the year 2022.
He allocated P4 million for the feeding program of all daycare students for 2021, with the menu being personally prepared by the City Nutritionists.
A total of P5 million will be utilized for the food and milk assistance for six months of children ages 6 below who will be found malnourished, through door-to-door weigh-ins.
The Lazatin administration will also provide a continuous supply of free vitamin A and C supplements, and will conduct deworming of all kids below 7 years old.
“Ako po mismo ang gumagawa nito. Ako po mismo ang kakatok sa bahay-bahay, para maseguro lang na malusog ang bawat batang Angeleño,” Lazatin said.
