CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Councilor Jimmy Lazatin on Monday started the annual “Brigada Eskwela” here, visiting at least seven public schools in a bid to prepare their classrooms before the opening of classes next month.

Lazatin, chairman of the city council committee on education, visited the elementary schools in Sindalan, Calulut, Panipuan , Malino, Baliti, Telabastagan and San Pablo.

He distributed four-gallon latex paint to each school courtesy of Boysen.

Boysen donated 42 cans as part of its corporate social responsibility, he said.

“As the chairman of the Committee on Education, we don’t only come up with legislative measures in support of education but put these into tangible actions like linking up with private companies as part of their corporate social responsibility to take part in our share of responsibility to improve quality of education in any way we can like helping create more conducive environment for learning” said Lazatin in a statement.

The Brigada Eskwela also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week is a program under the umbrella project Adopt-A-School. It is stipulated under Republic Act 8525 encouraging private sector or private companies to adopt a school by extending any donation except cash.

“Brigada Eskwela, falls under the Adopt-A-School and it is an annual schools’ clean-up and repair activity spearheaded by DepEd, with the cooperation of non-government organizations, parents, students, teachers, the business community and civic organizations,” said Lazatin.

“Instead of cash donations, participants to the clean-up drive donate construction and cleaning materials, or serve as volunteers to prepare the schools two weeks before the opening of classes,” he added.
Lazatin thanked Boysen for donating the paint which he will distribute until the end of the week.
