ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin, Jr. is seeking the help of business sectors to augment the city’s food stockpile which will be distributed for indigent families in the 33 barangays here.

In his letter addressed to Connie Tayag, Chairman of the Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (MACCII), and Mariano Chua, President of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Angeles City Inc., Lazatin is appealing for donations in the form of “rice, canned goods, instant noodles, and bottled water.”

He said this will add to the current stockpile of the city, and will greatly help the poor families in the community.

“The city must be prepared more since the height of this crisis is not determined yet,” Lazatin said.

Lazatin is also seeking the help of JCI Angeles City Culiat, headed by their Chapter President Don Edward Quito, to launch a donation campaign for diapers and other children’s need for indigent family here.

“During this outbreak, let us work together to prevent the spread of the virus in the community and by ensuring that families will be able to have basic needs at home,” he said.

Their help, according to Lazatin, will expand the city’s resources.

To date, the City Government has already prepared 100,000 emergency food packs composed of rice and canned goods. The City Government also purchased disinfectants, antibiotics, thermal scanners, alcohol, face masks, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for workers were also purchased due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The city will also use the P5-million feeding fund of Angeles City Nutrition Office for the procurement of milk formula and baby food for poor families.

The help from JCI will further sustain poor families with children below five years old, said Lazatin.

He also thanked the various private establishments, organizations, and individuals who had earlier sent donations to the city.

“Let us unite and heed to the call of President Duterte to help our indigent kababayan,” Lazatin added.
