MARIVELES, Bataan: On Friday and every last Friday of March has been declared  a special non-working holiday for all public offices and all schools, both public and private, in this town.

Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion issued Thursday an executive order on the non-working holiday declaration “in support of the annual celebration of national Women’s Month and International Women’s Day.”

The mayor said the municipality recognizes the role of women and the achievements they contribute to the community and the nation, as a whole.

He said that there is a need to celebrate national Women’s Month to raise awareness on their struggles for gender equality and their rights and to highlight their achievements and discuss continuing and emerging women’s empowerment and gender equality issues and concerns, challenges and commitments.

“Ang lahat po ay inaaanyayahang makibahagi sa pagkilala sa mga karapatan ng kababaihan at sa pagbibigay sa kanila ng pantay pantay na pagtingin at oportunidad para sa kanilang kaunlaran,” Concepcion said.

The mayor leaves to the discretion of private companies the decision to declare work suspension for the day.

Mariveles is home to the Freeport Area of Bataan where more than 90 locators operate, employing more than 35,000 workers.

“For locators, discretion pa rin nila if they want to declare work suspension Friday,” said Hazel Keith Elloren, information officer of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan.
