ABUCAY, Bataan: Three lady students from Grampus Heritage and Training Ltd. based in the United Kingdom visited this town and had so far tried and explored different activities in the area.

The non-profit organization has been involved in the management and promotion of European projects related to culture, heritage, archaeology and the environment.

Tourism officer Genel Llanes Real said the first to arrive in Abucay were Elisha Cutbert and Helena Crawshay to learn the secret in the art of broom making (walis lasa) in Barangay Mabatang.

Reggie Razon, president of the organization of broom makers, Marielle Reyes of the Negosyo Center, barangay chairman Ambet Bautista and other broom makers shared their expertise to the foreign ladies.

Cuthbert and Crawshay enjoyed their learning experience of the traditional art of broom making and acknowledged the patience and dedication of workers in the field that they said they will share in England.

Their next visit was Khalima Handicrafts where owner Marlon Pabustan showed them the art of handicraft making.

Pabustan thanked Mayor Robin Tagle, the municipal tourism office and the provincial office of the Department of Trade for showing his products to the world through the two ladies from UK.

For some hours, Cuthbert and Crawshay became fashion models of fashion designer Arnel Tapia. Wearing costumes shaped from indigenous and recycled materials, the two ladies showed their modelling form at the lobby of the beautiful Abucay municipal hall.

Megan Postlethwaite joined Cuthbert and Crawshay in the Aeta village of the Magbukon tribe in Barangay Bangkal.

The three ladies savored the unique flavor of the local cuisine prepared by the natives in bamboos and witnessed a different culture and language. They joined with both the children and the elders who danced.

Mayor Tagle thanked Jay-R Reyes, Aeta representative to the Abucay sangguniang bayan and Christine Tagle, chairperson of the Abucay tourism council and the DTI Negosyo Center for their support in showing to the visitors of the culture, arts and industry in the town known as “Bayan ng Mahusay.” (30)
