CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) cited yesterday initial reports that Typhoon Labuyo had damaged at least P12 million worth of infrastructure in Aurora province where some 600 houses where either partially or totally destroyed.
Several roads linking Casiguran and Dipaculao, Aurora were reported impassable, even as scores of families in coastal areas were reported to have moved to municipal halls amid strong winds, the OCD said.
The regional OCD based here cited reports that eight barangays were flooded in Cabanatuan City. A landslide was reported in Barangay Vallecruz in the city, although no one was hurt.
The OCD said the flooded barangays included Communal, Sta. Arcadia, Polilio, Barrara, Sangitan West, San Juan Acfa, San Isidro and DS Garcia. Families from these areas were brought to safer grounds.
OCD Regional Director Josefina Timoteo said 68 persons from coastal Barangay Masagana in Dilasag town in Aurora voluntarily left their homes and sought shelter at the municipal hall as the typhoon got worse early morning.
This, even as the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Aurora reported that strong winds pried off the roof of the police station of Dinalungan town, sending local cops seeking shelter elsewhere.
As the typhoon’s strong winds dissipated late morning, repair teams from the Aurora Electric Cooperative (Aurelco) went on field to repair downed posts and restore power to the province.
As of noon yesterday, government agencies had no report of casualties in areas affected by Labuyo in Central Luzon.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) issued an advisory saying a portion of the Rizal-Pantabangan road in Barangay Ganduz in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija was closed to traffic due to floods, although other national roads in the rest of Central Luzon remained accessible.
