SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – A Korean national who was found on the throes of death at a beach here early Wednesday subsequently died despite efforts by a medical team to revive him.

Initial investigation by the police indicated that it was a case of suicide.

The Korean national was identified by his driver as Park Jin Sung, supposedly a casino financier from Ayala Alabang in Manila.

Col. Vicente Tolentino, chief of the Law Enforcement Department of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA – LED) said the victim sustained a gunshot wound on the left temple.

Police found a 9mm handgun under his body, as well as several pieces of ammunition lined up on a nearby concrete breakwater.

According to Tolentino, two female joggers found the victim on the beach behind the Pier One Moonbay Marina restaurant at 6:15 a.m. The witnesses then flagged down LED officer Allan Tolentino who was patrolling the area on his bike to call for help.

“The victim was still alive, although already gasping for breath, when he was found,” Tolentino said, “so we alerted the Emergency Response Team of the SBMA Dispensary, who immediately responded to the incident.”

He added that the SBMA medical team tried to revive the victim to no avail, however.

Tolentino also said that the driver of the victim told investigators that he and his employer arrived at the Subic Bay Freeport at around 4 a.m. and that they checked into separate rooms at the Diamond Hotel here.
