LICAB, Nueva Ecija – Artemio Caraang, 71, nearly broke in tears as he was trying to find any possible motive behind the killing of his 46-year old son, Vice Mayor Luisito Caraang.

“Wala siyang kaaway. Mabait na tao ang anak ko,” was all he can say, stressing the victory of Luisito in the last May 10 automated elections even without a political party.

Artemio said hi son’s only wish in entering politics was to serve the people of this fifth class municipality. “Wala na akong maisip na dahilan para mangyari sa kanya ang ganito,” he said.

The vice mayor is the first member of the family to hold a municipal post. His brother, Albert is the incumbent head of Barangay San Casimiro where the family resides. Albert is running for reelection.

Luisito died while undergoing a medical treatment at the Premiere General Hospital here after two unidentified gunmen shot him at about 5:10 a.m. Saturday.

Investigation disclosed the victim has just finished his regular morning jogging along with his two security escorts and was about to enter his home when two persons, one of them the gunman, shot him without any provocation.

The suspects immediately fled on board a single motorcycle after the victim fell on the ground, reports said.

Aliggayu said investigators have yet to establish the motive behind the killing.

A task force was created to run after the killers, police said.

The patriarch said all he wanted now is justice for his son.
