ANGELES CITY – A run for a cause and a cause to unite.
The Angeles City Sports Office (ACSO) is urging all Central Luzon and Kapampangan runners to join the “Kahit Isang Araw Lang Unity Run”, an event that aims to raise funds for the construction of more computer classrooms in public schools nationwide.
Set on January 22 at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, the fun run is projecting to gather 300,000 runners and aims to raise at least P1-billion funds.
ACSO Head Rosever Pascua said that the Angeles City government will sponsor and send a number of runners for the event.
“Sports was created to lessen conflicts and wars, and more importantly to promote unity, and so we are fully supporting this unity run,” Pascua stressed.
“Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan’s administration, government officials, joggers and various sports clubs in Angeles have always been very supportive of fun runs with a cause which we all believe is a noble endeavor,” he said.
Noting that ACSO had organized various run with a cause, Pascua said that Avante Garde’s unity run has “an exceptional approach and objective since it is responding to the needs of millions of school children who are expected to cope up with the changing times.”
UNTV National Television Station has partnered with the Department of Education and Avante Garde Creatives, Inc. in organizing the said event which is simultaneous in six other cities in Visayas and Mindanao.
A brand new Chevrolet Cruze is at stake for the grand raffle. All finishers of the 10k, 5k and 3k will automatically qualify for the raffle draw. Other consolation prizes include LCD TVs, E-bike, cellphones and laptops.
Top finisher for the 10k will receive P35,000, for the 5k – P25,000 and for the 3k – P15,000.
In a recent report from the Philippine Information Agency, Avante Garde Chief Operating Officer Ryan Ramos Avant Garde chief operating officer Ryan Ramos said the unity run’s proceeds will be used in building “classrooms packaged with high-end computer and aircondition units for public schools” nationwide.
He also said the Department of Education (DepEd) through its Adopt-A-School Program will identify and recommend schools that are in dire need computer facilities.
Pascua said that those who are willing to join the unity run could register at the ACSO office (contact numbers: 0919-867-8329, (045)322-7230 local 208) located at the third floor of the city hall in Barangay Pulng Maragul here.
Last Year, more than 50,000 runners joined the “Takbo para sa Libreng Kolehiyo”, also a run with a cause that benefited 200 poor but deserving college students who are now enjoying free tuition, books, uniforms and meals at the La Verdad Free College in Caloocan City.
Meanwhile, some 30,000 runners in Davao City are also expected to join the synchronized unity run in the country. Starting point will be at SM City Mall of Davao.
In a message delivered by Councilor April Dayap, local officials led by Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte also expressed their support for the “Isang Araw Lang Unity Run.”
