BAGUIO CITY – Through the Department of Tourism-Central Luzon, the Province of Pampanga highlighted various artists during the 2nd North Luzon Expo held here recently.

Opening the Hibla ng Lahing Pilipino runway was Philip Torres with his signature couture Pidayit which was applauded by the audience at the Manor Garden. The Kapampangan designer presented a capsule collection ranging from casual to high fashion looks that represented the culture and way of life of the cabalens.

“Aside from showing our craft and culture to the rest of North Luzon, we have been very vocal about collaborating with the diverse and colorful textiles made by local weavers in various parts of the country. Just like the literal meaning of my brand, which is “to unite,” I aim to work with fellow creatives as well,” shared Torres.

Meanwhile, Angeles City’s renowned sculptor and painter Arnel Garcia took part in the Art in the Park Exhibit at the Wright Park where he presented his masterpieces at the gazebo and gave art talks and live demonstration for casting.

Sharing his culinary expertise, Chef Howard Dizon was given the opportunity to introduce the “Pamangan Kapampangan” to Northern Luzon as he rolled out a sumptuous banquet that even DOT Secretary Christina Frasco herself couldn’t resist as she dropped by the Central Luzon pavilion and experienced the taste of Pampanga.

Another blockbuster hit is the skillful artistry of Kulitan calligrapher Lucio Sison as the expo participants lined up to get their names written in the Kapampangan indigenous script.

Mabalacat’s miniature artist Nhoda Muñoz also represented Pampanga and Central Luzon as he showcased the intricacy of his work’s details.

“Much like the diverse ensemble of the runway, Region 3 becomes the avenue of countless stories to unfold because it is in Central Luzon where endless stories begin,” said DOT-3 director Richard Daenos.

During the culminating night, Central Luzon was recognized for having the Best Pavilion with the stand-out elements of the lubenas, giant and traditional lanterns and an actual feast featuring free sisig, batirol, and more local delicacies.
