MABALACAT CITY – Taking pride in Philippine arts and culture through fashion and music, Philippine Consul General in New York Elmer G. Cato spearheaded two cultural events dubbed “Pinangari” and “Sandiwa: A Journey of Song and Dance” in New York.
Pinangari, Kapampangan word which translates to rainbow, is a fashion exhibit featuring 21 modern ternos and barongs by notable Kapampangan fashion designers Philip Torres, Marlon Tuazon, and Frederick Policarpio as a prelude to their fall fashion show in November.
The fashion show exhibit will run from August 6 to 27 at the Philippine Center Lobby.
Sandiwa: A Journey of Song and Dance was a hybrid concert of live performance and digital presentation to commemorate Buwan ng Wika and the 75th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United States.
The live concert was directed by Miguel Catacutan Braganza II which featured artists from the US and Philippines held at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center and simultaneously streamed via Facebook Live over the weekend.
The concert also included the world premiere of the song “Pilipinas, Ang Bayan Ko” which was composed specifically for the event. The song was written and performed by Jocson College executive vice president Leigh Jocson, co-written with Jericho Torres and music arrangement by Normita Pablico.
The song was also in collaboration with Jocson College Center for Learning and Development in Culture and Arts (CLDCAS) and Uyat Artista for its digital presentation under the direction of Jayson Pabalan.
