TARLAC CITY – The 10th Kanlahi Festival opened here on Monday, March 2, with a slew of activities starting with a fun run followed by flag raising and a Mass of Thanksgiving officiated by Tarlac Archbishop Emeritus Florentino Cinense.

“Ito ay selebrasyon, thanksgiving natin sa ating probinsya para sa tuluyang progreso at kaunlaran. So, bilang kawani ng gobyerno, ito ay hamon sa atin para lalo pa nating galingan ang pagseserbisyo sa ating mga kababayan,” enthused Gov. Christian Yap during the flag rites.

A Kakanin Festival, featuring the distinct delicacies of the 17 municipalities of the province, along with Tarlac City, received national coverage with GMA-7’s Unang Hirit.

Held at the same time were the Kanlahi Trade Fair, Agri Cultura Exhibit, and Bonsai Exhibit at the Maria Cristina Park and Organic Center.
More activities scheduled are:

March 3 – Street Dance Competition and Tanim ng Iba’t-Ibang Lahi;
March 4 – Kanlahi Zumba Fest;
March 5 – Ginoong Kanlahi;
March 6 – Kanlahi Job Fair and Binibining Kanlahi;
March 7 – Grand Float Parade and Kanlahi Music Festival; and
March 8 – Pyromusical Competition.

Kanlahi for “Kanlungan ng Lahi” or Cradle of Races serves as a showcase Tarlac’s rich cultural diversity and history expressed in the myriad socio-cultural and economic activities during its weeklong run.
