ANGELES CITY – It was a momentous occasion for Jocson College (JC) on Monday as it inaugurated its new building and unveiled a marker commemorating its founder as part of its 65th anniversary celebration.

Mayor Edgardo D. Pamintuan, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting and Clark Development Corp. (CDC) President- CEO Arthur P. Tugade led the ribbon cutting for the new 8-storey building with JC Vice President Ma. Felisa “Leigh” Jocson and JC Second President Dr. Felicitas Borja Manalang.

VP Jocson welcomed the guest with her opening remarks as she also expressed her gratitude to the people behind the success of the college.

“We are up on our feet and there is no lethargic moment at our college,”Jocson said.

“This challenging era has stimulated us to be keen, perceptive and consistent with our vision and advocacies. Education nowadays has soared high with new alternatives and opportunities to develop students’ potential and upgrade their skills and ultimately to prepare them to become reliable office and industry workforces or even become selfmade entrepreneurs themselves,” she said.

“This is our goal to assist our students through properly aligned courses that can help them acquire employable skills facilitating their need as workers in the global arena,” she added as she recalled, “when Lola started her school in the fifties, she realized the need of her students on livelihood-leading courses.”

Jocson said: “At the moment, there are on-going efforts to strengthen existing linkages with institutions and establishing new affiliations, too.”

Mayor Pamintuan delivered the keynote address as he also narrated how his father, then Vice Mayor Alberto Pamintuan, Jr., became part of the Jocson Fashion School 65 years ago, which is now Jocson Collge (JC). “I was just a toddler then,” he mused.

The mayor, Tugade and Cabigting with Jocson and Manalang later unveiled the marker at the ground floor commemorating the late JC Founder and First President Felisa Gomez Jocson.

Tugade was on hand as guest of honor as JC has partnered with the state-run firm for its relevant companies at the Clark Freeport Zone to link with the college on its course offerings such as tourism, hotel management and aircraft maintenance technology.

The “JC Felisa Theater” at the 8th floor of the new building was also formally opened and was the venue for the rest of the program where Dr. Manalang delivered her speech centering on the theme, “Radiant at 65: Blazing Excellence toward a Global Landscape.”

Rev. Fr. Andronico “Sonny” Pahed, the school chaplain since 1983, led a meaningful invocation at the start of the program.
