ANGELES CITY – Bong Collado of Isabela Extreme bagged the first place in the “Second Mayor EdPam Cup 4×4 Off Road Challenge held on Saturday in Barangay Pulung Maragul here.
However, Angeles City Sports Office (ACSO) head Rosever Pascua said that Angeles City dominated the off road challenge since “many of our local racers were included in the top 20.”
Local favorites Omer Dunca and Lian Balatbat, who are members of the “4-Wheelers Club”, placed second and third, respectively.
ACSO and the Angeles City Four-Wheel Drive Incorporated organized the event in line with the celebration of the month-long Fiestang Kuliat 2011.
The sporting event kicked–off over the weekend that featured enthusiasts and racers from other provinces and cities who showcased their skills in various difficult challenges.
Pascua said participants came from as far as Isabela, Cebu, Bataan, Bicol and Manila.
“The participants of the said event also pledged to assist in any untoward incidents by lending their vehicles during disaster and rescue operation,” he said.
The city built a race track at a vacant lot in Barangay Pulung Maragul, just near the Angeles City Hall and Marquee Mall.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan graced the event and flagged off the first driver. “Despite the bad weather caused by typhoon Pedring, the show must go on,” he said.
Other clubs who joined the event include Pampanga Off Roaders Club Inc., Del Monte four-wheelers, Bicol Off Road Club, Isabela Extreme,Team Castrol, Batac Off Roaders, Land Cruiser Club of the Philippines (LCCP) and Kapampangan Off Roaders.
